Visions oF India - Celebrating 60 Years of Indian Independence

In commemoration of the 60th Year of Indian Independence ‘Safe India; Progressive India’

This was a concept incorporating different styles of music from different parts of the country. This is the first time that different traditional styles including the very colourful folk traditions were brought together on the same platform along with Classical music, Bollywood Music and Fusion. It was arranged with modern and traditional instruments and also included traditional percussion from different parts of India.

The unique feature of this concept was Dr. Subramaniam’s special composition which featured these different artists from around the country, showcasing each artist’s individualism and special flavour. The climax of the composition interweaves Dr. Subramaniam’s playing with the voices of India singing a patriotic salute to India.

‘Visions of India’ incorporates the following vocal styles of India:

- Hindustani (North Indian Classical)
- Karnatic (South Indian Classical)
- Bollywood (Hindi Film)
- Ghazal
- Baul (Folk from Bengal)
- Langa (Folk from Rajasthan)
- Punjabi Folk and Sufi Music
- Marathi Abhangs
- Patriotic/Fusion

This special composition was supported by Keyboards, Guitar, Bass, Drums and Indian Percussion.

In additional to being a unique musical experience, Voices of India was also a unique visual treat with each artist colourfully representing the part of India he/she hails from. The event was conducted on Saturday, 27th Oct, 2007 at Gayathri Vihar, Palace Grounds, Bellary Road, Bangalore.
